What we think:
Introduction
Every year we are looking forward to meeting friends and colleagues from all around the world at the international IAML-congress. We do not only experience the professional exchange and share news from the world of music libraries and archives, but we will also enjoy the surroundings of the venue on excursions, the culture and especially the music on site. As much joy as this brings us, it also comes with a great deal of responsibility. Every event requires an enormous amount of resources, from the planning of the event to the departure of the last participant and beyond. To fulfill our responsibility towards the environment we decided to plan the IAML congress 2025 in Salzburg as GREEN EVENT.
Everyone can contribute
To keep our ecological footprint as small as possible we follow the recommendations of PLUS Green Campus, the sustainability initiative of the Paris Lodron University Salzburg, and we strive for the Austrian eco-label. Apart from putting our efforts into the process of planning we would like to invite all IAML members to contribute to the success of our project “IAML goes green”! Please find below the components for our contribution and assistance for your personal “green” attendance at the congress.
What we recommend:
Mobility
To Salzburg
Located in the heart of Europe, Salzburg is easily accessible by public transport. For your arrival and departure we recommend – as far as possible – the most green form of mobility for longer distances: the train. Salzburg is ideally connected to the whole of Europe by rail. Whether your journey starts in Europe or you enter the continent on an airport in a bigger city, the train will be not only the most sustainable but also the most stressless and comfortable way to travel to your destination. There will be special offers available later on.
In Salzburg
Public transport is also a key factor not only for travelling to Salzburg but also for getting around in Salzburg. With small streets, short distances, increasing traffic, shortage in parking space, etc. private transport by car is not a very attractive option in the inner city. Most of the places included in the congress, such as the venues, concert halls, most of the excursions, recommended accommodations and restaurants are situated within walking distance. For longer distances we recommend the city busses. There is also a well organized public transport network when you choose to discover the surroundings of Salzburg.
What we do:
Main venue: The UNIPARK
The main venue of the IAML congress 2025, the UNIPARK, is the ideal place to be green. It is beautifully situated close to nature, surrounded by the city hills and many green spaces. It is furthermore perfectly connected to public transport. The building itself holds the EMAS (Eco Management and Audit Scheme ) & ISO 14001 certificates since 2016, which means that standards in resource and energy consumption, emissions, waste, etc. are evaluated and improved every year.
Materials and waste management
We try to take every aspect connected to the congress into account. Already while we organize the conference, we use as little resources as possible and try to find sustainable alternatives. We pay attention to environmental impact of the materials we use, for instance by using recycled paper for our print matters and reusable dishes for catering. By avoiding disposable items, by rethinking what is really needed and wanted, for example, in the congress bag, we try to avoid waste. It goes without saying that the congress bag will be ecofriendly. We also encourage sponsors and exhibitors to pay attention to environmental issues. Our aim is to reduce waste and the use of resources in general. The main venue has an established waste separation system that meets the overall high standard of Austria.
Catering
Food and drinks are offered in organic, seasonal and regional quality. We work with regional catering companies which are verifiably environmentally friendly and ecolabel certified.
Greenwashing
Environmental protection und sustainability is important to us. But we are very well aware that sometimes we have to compromise on certain issues or that we cannot take into account every aspect. Sometimes, however, it is just a lack of knowledge. Therefore we ask you to send your ideas, opinions, comments and critique on sustainability topics to agnes.brunnauer@plus.ac.at. We are looking forward to learning from you and improving!
